2011 - 2012 African Entrepreneurship Project

The College of Business (COB) at The University of Findlay (UF),
with the 
support of

  • financial assistance from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State under the authority of the Fulbright-Hayes Act of 1961, as amended,
  • The Rotary Club of Findlay, OH and Rotary Clubs in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, and Senegal,
  • various African universities, and
  • local chambers of commerce and industry, 

has invited “up-and-coming professionals”  from the countries of Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, and Senegal to join a long-term program designed to assist them in the development and launch of  their own entrepreneurial venture (for-profit or not-for-profit).  The new entrepreneurial ventures are ones that they have some knowledge of and are designed to meet an apparent need in the community and help enhance their country’s economy.  

Some examples include:

  • arts and crafts (creation or sale of artifacts and handicrafts to tourists and for export) 
  • business and professional services (maintenance and janitorial services, software and online services, employee recruiting and training services, environmental management services, security,  etc.)
  • education provider (day-care facility for children, private school, entrepreneurial training/consulting  firm) 
  • export/import
  • food company (bakery, caterer, food processing, etc.)
  • health care (for-profit or not-for-profit clinic, pharmacy, etc.)
  • hospitality services (restaurant, hotel, tour guide company, etc.)        
  • manufacturing, fabrication or assembly
  • microfinance (small loan cooperative)
  • personal services (photography, translation, hair care, lawn care and landscaping, etc.)
  • transportation services (trucking company, taxi business, etc.)
  • warehousing, inventory management, storage (both business and personal items)
