College of Education

The Clubhouse
“The Clubhouse” is a free literacy outreach service provided to the children of Hancock County and surrounding areas sponsored by The University of Findlay College of Education. The purpose of this program is two-fold: to provide reading and literacy instruction and support for school-age children and to provide an authentic experience for the University’s teacher education candidates. The mission of “The Clubhouse” is to provide struggling readers with a safe and encouraging environment for specific assessment-based intervention.  Math tutoring is available during the fall semester.

The weekly program is designed to provide the children with an engaging, multi-sensory environment to facilitate a child-friendly, stimulating, language-rich environment to support learning, interest in reading, and interventions using small group instruction. This is accomplished with the aid of hands-on educational games and activities, manipulatives, assistive devices, educational software, a wide variety of children’s literature, and puppets. Currently, “The Clubhouse” is offered twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 5:30-6:45.

“The Clubhouse” also offers math assessment and intervention. This program will focus on providing children with a stimulating, engaging, and encouraging small group instruction.
