In The University of Findlay’s social work program, we look for students who demonstrate a commitment to social change through work experiences, academic endeavors and extracurricular or community service. We look for evidence of an individual’s ability to succeed in a demanding academic program and a professional career following graduation.
Our graduates are successful! For the last three years,
100 percent of graduates from UF’s social work program have been hired in social work professions or been accepted to the graduate schools of their choice. And for the students who have gone on to graduate school, 100 percent of those students have found social work jobs within three months after they earn their graduate degrees.
At Findlay, you will complete an internship – arranged with help from UF faculty members – as part of the social work program. You will have opportunities to develop close working relationships with the faculty, not only as professors or lecturers, but also as caring professionals who can help prepare you for the “real world” of social work.
In addition to a solid education, the social work program will provide you with the knowledge base unique to the social work profession. The academic course work emphasizes four areas of knowledge for the social worker:
- Social service policy
- Human behavior in the social environment
- Social work methods
- Research

The national social work honor society, Phi Alpha, recently recognized Robin Walters-Powell, assistant professor and chair of the social work program, with the Phi Alpha Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award for her dedication and service as adviser. Members of UF’s Eta Theta Chapter of Phi Alpha submitted an application for this award.
