Students Travel to Haiti for Medical Mission Trip

College of Pharmacy Medical Mission Trip
Over Spring Break 2011, The University of Findlay College of Pharmacy participated in the first medical mission trip endorsed by the college. Nine students and two faculty members traveled to Haiti: Tracey Archibald, Emily Kistler, Lubna Kousa, Jesse McDonald, Ave Orlando, Kensey Schultz, Nicole Stone, Derek Wurm, and Josh Wyss; accompanied by Assistant Dean John Stanovich and Dr. Charlie Mosler.

The team was joined by other healthcare providers and assisted them in providing medical care to the people of Haiti. Daily clinics were set up in southwestern Haiti, near Les Cayes, an area that has seen overcrowding recently due to the millions of people who have fled the capital of Port au Prince following the devastating 2010 earthquake. The students interviewed patients, took vital signs, performed lab tests, dispensed medications, and counseled patients with the help of Creole-speaking translators.
