Homecoming and Family Weekend Brings Together Alumni, Students, Families

Homecoming and Family Weekend was Oct. 14-16, and students, alumni, faculty, staff and their families enjoyed the many activities that took place.            

On Friday evening, Jessica Burkett and Ryan Gibson were crowned Homecoming Queen and King. Other members of the court included Mandi McQuillan, Bridget Messaros, Erin Dunlap, Laura Abraham, Kyle Collette, Tyler Jacobs, Jordan Kirwen and Matthew Young.

The festivities also included a parade, pep rally and carnival.

The sixth annual 5K and Little Oiler Fun Run was Saturday morning, with 251 runners participating to support Campus Ministries. The race raised $2,400 for the cause.

Aaron Beach won overall with a finish time of 16:45. Overall female winner was Meghan Bartel with a time of 20:15. All results may be viewed online, on the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations website.
           
Also Saturday morning was the annual Alumni Association breakfast.

Congratulations to Distinguished Alumni Greg Denecker ’94, Larry Manley ’61, Mary Ann Rohleder ’70 and George Showers ’65 and other honorees Johnnie Jackson ’07, M’09 – Old Main Award for young alumni under the age of 36; Sharon Milligan – Arch Award for faculty or staff members who are not alumni but have served the institution with distinction for more than 25 years; and the late William Flanegan ’59 – Gold Medallion Award for alumni who deserve recognition but are now deceased. Distinguished Alumni are members of the Alumni Association who have exhibited the highest standards of individual achievement in their professions and/or personal endeavors and have contributed to the advancement of humanity.

Later that afternoon, the Oilers claimed a 27-24 win over the Ohio Dominican Panthers during the Homecoming football game at Donnell Stadium.

The day’s festivities concluded with several reunion dinners and celebrations, including the environmental program, Black Student Union, Marketing Club and Greeks.
