Roles and Responsibilities of Key Personnel

Role of Pre-Award Office
Prior to submitting grant proposal, the Pre-Award Sponsored Programs Office is responsible for:      
  • Assisting in locating funding sources and obtaining agency application guidelines/forms  
  • Assisting faculty in developing concept for projects      
  • Assisting in proposal design and budget preparation (with Post-Award Office)
  • Setting internal timeline for completion of proposal preparation
  • Facilitating communication between PI and funding agency       
  • Maintaining boilerplate information about university
  • Reviewing proposals prior to submission, including design, budget, compliance, agency requirements, etc.
  • Assigning a temporary pre-award number to proposal
  • Assisting in obtaining internal approval and authorization signatures
  • Maintaining awareness of status of all proposals and follow-up as needed
  • Assisting in obtaining letters of commitment
  • Arranging for copying and mailing  
  •  Maintaining online sponsor submission systems (FastLane, Grants.gov, etc.)

Once the grant has been awarded, the PI works with the Post-Award Office to set up post-award functions.
